About the Artist

Ros Rowell has been a professional artist since the early 1990’s, exhibiting widely in Scotland and as far afield as London and Tasmania. Her work has gone all over the world and she now tutors art as well as painting in watercolour, oils and mixed media in a characteristic atmospheric style. She is also now writing instructional articles on painting for the UK magazine “Leisure Painter”.
She is a trained teacher and has a science rather than art background, putting this to her advantage specializing in painting method. She runs dynamic, fun, painting classes and workshops. Her exhibition record is available- can be e-mailed to anyone interested.
She lives on a small croft in Torness, Stratherrick, South Loch Ness, half an hour’s drive from the centre of Inverness in the Highlands of Scotland. Her Studio and Gallery is open throughout the year and she runs a comprehensive range of Art Courses, Workshops and Classes as well as displaying and selling work at the Studio, and also exhibiting elsewhere.
The Highland Art Studio is situated in magnificent scenery with wonderful views and Ros makes full use of this both in her paintings and in her teaching. Her other enthusiasms include growing fruit and veg. keeping poultry, playing traditional music on accordion, fiddle and mandolin. These influences creep into her work as well as into her teaching! A motto that inspires Ros is that "Art is an act of creation, not of imitation". A visit to her Studio or to this web-site should hopefully inspire and enthuse visitors and encourage a love of the Scottish landscape and environment and art.
